God’s Revelation to Me

Yesterday, I was blessed to participate in a beautiful celebration of Holy Mass, and I followed that time of worship with a short time of Adoration. As I entered the chapel and knelt, I prayed that God would speak to me; that He would reveal to me a way to become closer to Him. He did so very quickly and clearly! (I guess He did so for the sake of my impatience and stubbornness of heart.)

For the past several months, I have been slowly reading and praying my way through the Book of Sirach. Chapter 17 was God's answer to my prayer, two verses in particular. I could not have been more sure that the words in verses 25 and 26 were directed squarely at me.

"Turn to the Lord and forsake your sins; pray in his presence and lessen your offenses. Return to the Most High and turn away from iniquity, and hat abominations intensely."

How much simpler could He make it?! In order to draw closer to the Almighty, I must seek His face in Eucharistic Adoration ("pray in his presence") and pray to overcome temptation and sin in my life. So, that is what I did for the ensuing moments; and it is what I will continue to do in the days and weeks ahead.

Pray that I can cleanse my life of iniquity. Pray that faithful Christians around the world might be able to do the same. Pray also that our culture will be rid of its attachment to sinfulness.

St. Cyril of Jerusalem on the Eucharist

Although the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist was not the first thing that convinced me I needed to become Catholic, it was of prime importance in my journey home. Now that I am home, the Eucharist is what sustains and strengthens me on my perpetual search for holiness. Indeed, it is the "source and summit" of my Christian life. Thus, I always enjoy taking time to read what Christians in the first centuries had to say about "the breaking of the bread." My findings are such: there is clear evidence that, from the time Christ instituted the Eucharistic meal on Holy Thursday, Christians believed Christ's body, blood, soul, and divinity to be TRULY present. They never considered that it might be "just a symbol." The Quiet, Beautiful Inspiration of the Christmas Season

The Christmas season is beautiful and inspiring.  During Christmastide, many of us have more time for quiet contemplation, and we are able to ponder images such as stables and shepherds and Magi and gifts.  This season’s stillness and quiet allow us to realize that God showers abundant blessings on us, and that He is preparing us for a dynamic mission.  We need to listen and ponder what God has in store.  The iconic images of Christmas are a window into beautiful trends in our lives for the year ahead. Gaspare Diziani, Adoration of the Shepherds (ca.
